Fired due to not coming in because of snow?

I called my work at 11am and explained to them I might not be able to make it to my shift due to the fact they haven't plowed our street (my shift was at 5pm). I told them I wasnt calling in. I was just giving them a warning that I might not make it, so they could plan ahead. I also said that if I couldnt make it I would call back. Now this is where I want to know about legal issues. Our Css (not a manager but a higher up from cashier) told me that I should be worried about getting fired. Does she have the authority or the right to be telling me? Can I get fired if I feel that I couldn't make it into work due to weather conditions? If they try to fire me because of this, is there anything I can do? I live in Omaha Nebraska.
