How long does breakthru bleeding last?

today is the 4th day of the breakthrough bleeding, it is not heavy but i just need to put some sanitary towels not to stain my panty. i just want to know how long it usually last cos am worried because its the first time its happening to me and will i still see my period next month or i have to start counting from the time the breakthrough bleeding started............ really concerned
